                        ABSTRACT 
                                                                                                       
                        The mud crab Scylla serrata has a high market economic value. However, the production 
                        number of mud crabs is now very limited from the nature. Therefore, It is a necessary for 
                        development of cultivation techniques to cope with market demand and maintain its 
                        sustainability. An application of a simple method  is to cut the claws of mud crabs before 
                        keeping to grow up. Three treatments were done in this study, i.e. one claw cut off, two claws cut 
                        off, and  control (none claws cut off). The studied results obtained from the 14 weeks 
                        experimental periods are the growth of a crab which one claw cut off showed larger than 
                        compared with those crabs which two crab claws cut off  and control. One of the crab claws have 
                        been cut heavy growth in the absolute value of 100 g, whereas the cut crab crab claws and crab 
                        both control not treated cutting claws each have a heavy growth of the absolute value of 80 g and 
                        41.4 g. In addition, daily growth rate values indicate the results that crabs with claws cutting one 
                        has a daily growth rate of value 0.77 g / day whereas treated crab cuts both claws and controls 
                        who were not given treatment claw cutting each has value growth rate daily for 0.72 g / day and 
                        0.34 g / day. From the results of observations made, it is shown that cutting a claw Scylla serrata 
                        is a method that produces larger growth effects than using the method of cutting two claws and 
                        the control treatment that was not cutting claws. The results obtained are supported by statistical 
                        tests using one way ANOVA which gives results significantly different (P <0.5).

              ABSTRAK 
               
              Kepiting Bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan salah satu komoditas laut yang memiliki nilai 
              ekonomi yang tinggi. Namun, pada kenyataannya jumlah kepiting bakau S.serrata kini sudah 
              sedikit di alam. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengembangan teknik budidaya guna mengatasi 
              permintaan pasar, serta tetap menjaga kelestariannya. Penerapan metode sederhana dalam 
              pembudidayaannya menjadi salah satu metode yang dapat membantu pembesarannya. Salah satu 
              cara adalah dengan melakukan pemotongan capit sebelum pembesaran. S.serrata jantan diberi 
              tiga perlakuan yakni dipotong salah satu capitnya, dipotong kedua capitnya, serta kontrol yang 
              tidak diberikan perlakuan. Penelitian yang dilakukan selama 14 minggu memberikan hasil bahwa 
              kepiting yang salah satu capitnya dipotong memiliki nilai pertumbuhan berat mutlak 100 g, 
              sedangkan kepiting kepiting yang dipotong kedua capitnya dan kepiting kontrol yang tidak diberi 
              perlakuan pemotongan capit masing-masing memiliki nilai pertumbuhan berat mutlak sebesar 80 
              g dan 41,4 g. Selain itu, nilai laju pertumbuhan harian menunjukkan hasil bahwa kepiting dengan 
              pemotongan salah satu capitnya memiliki nilai laju pertumbuhan harian 0,77 g/hari sedangkan 
              kepiting yang diberi perlakuan pemotongan kedua capitnya dan kontrol yang tidak diberi 
              perlakuan pemotongan capit masing-masing memiliki nilai laju pertumbuhan harian sebesar 0,72 
              g/hari dan 0,34 g/hari. Dari hasil pengamatan yang dilakukan, dapat terlihat bahwa pemotongan 
              sebuah capit Scylla serrata merupakan metode yang menghasilkan pengaruh pertumbuhan lebih 
              besar dibandingkan dengan menggunakan metode pemotongan dua buah capit dan  kontrol yang 
              tidak diberi perlakuan pemotongan capit. Hasil yang didapatkan didukung oleh hasil uji statistika 
              dengan menggunakan one way ANOVA yang memberikan hasil berbeda secara nyata (P<0.5).
