WHAT IS MALNUTRITION??? Malnutrition is the condition that results from taking an unbalanced diet in which certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high an intake), or in the wrong proportions!!! FACTORS AFFECTING PREVALENCE OF MALNUTRITION IN BOTSWANA POVERTY- Less privileged people mostly have an unvaried diet or basically insufficient food. EDUCATION RESIDENCE LOCATION The Kgalagadi North district had the highest incidence - 12.1 percent - of "severe to complete malnutrition". The child growth-failure rate of 17 percent was also high, and reported to be increasing. The south-central district of Bobirwa recorded a growth-failure rate of 13.5 percent. On the other hand, the more affluent diamond-mining centre of Jwaneng had the lowest incidence of malnutrition, with only 0.2 percent of children found to be suffering deficiencies. The survey also revealed a low incidence of malnutrition in Gaborone, the capital city. NEGLIGENCE-Irresponsible parents !!! DISHING OUT OF FOOD IN A TYPICAL TSWANA HOUSEHOLD—Who gets the largest and best portions of everything??-Kids?Men?Women?Guests? TABOOS - Do’s and dont’s concerning food , for instance a pregnant woman should not eat colon because if the child is a boy he will have a long penis!! Other food that should not be eaten include eggs…… BELIEFS- ‘’Mopakwana’’—wasting and stunted growth of a kid is seen as a problem not associated with diet
