Informal Letter Writing YEAR 2 ENGLISH HOME LEARNING This week’s work This week you will be writing informal letters. Younormallywriteinformal letters to people you know, but it can sometimes be to people you don’t know. A formal letter (meaning it needs to be smarter) is normally written when you don’t know the reader, or the person you are writing to is important (like if you wrote a letter to Mr Quinn) Today’s lesson will look at the features of an informal letter. What are the features? You will need: ◦ The correct layout with the right ways to start and end the letter (Dear…. / Love from ….) ◦ Anintroduction to tell the reader why you are writing ◦ Expanded noun phrases to make your letter more interesting ◦ Questions for the reader (e.g. how are you?) ◦ The main paragraphs of the letter where you go into detail about whatever it is you are writing for (describing your week, what you want for your birthday, saying thank you for something) ◦ A paragraph to finish your letter. This is also called a conclusion ◦ The right address for where you are sending it. ◦ Exciting vocabulary and the correct punctuation. Task 1 Lookatandread the example letter. Using a pencil or colouring pencil can you highlight some of the features that was in our list. I have posted the full letter on the blog.
