Course Objectives At the end of the course, students should be able to explain various factors affecting career choice and development, understand vocational guidance, the need for vocational counselling and some theories of Vocational Development. Teaching Plan Week 1: The concept of Vocation: Job, career, occupation, Work and Vocation Week 2: Vocational Guidance and Counselling Weeks 3 & 4: Factors affecting vocational choice Week 5: The need for vocational guidance Week 6: Contributions of Significant others to Vocational Guidance: Counsellor and Parents Week 7: Roles of Teachers and Administrative staff towards vocational development Week 8: Theories of Vocational Development: Trait-and-factor theory Week 9: Super’s theory of Career Development Week 10: Holland’s theory of Career Development Week 11: Anne Roe’s Theory of Career Development Week 12: Ginzberg and Associates’ theory of Career Development Week 13: Planning a Vocational Guidance programme Week 14: Steps in vocational decision making process Week 15: Revision COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSESSMENT Requirements: To qualify to sit for the semester examination, a minimum of 70% attendance to lectures and tutorials is required. Also, the student is expected to have made an oral presentation and taken the Revision Test.
