                      • Download / install Python
                      • Download / install PyCharm Community Edition
                      • Configure PyCharm

                 Part a – Download / install Python version 3
You will need to install Python in order to be able run programs we will write during this course. To
start, open the internet browser of your choice and visit the site: https://www.python.org/downloads/

You will download the latest version of Python 3 (it is fine if it is greater than 3.5.2 in the picture), and be
sure not to download Python 2.

When the download has completed, locate the file on your computer to and run it to install Python.

                 Note for Mac Users

Mac users must still download Python 3. By default, Mac’s have a different version installed (Python 2)
so it is still necessary to install Python 3.

                 Note for Windows Users
You will need to know where the Python program is installed. During the installation process, you will be
shown the location—take note of it (write it down, etc.)
                          Write this
                        location down

Part b – Download / install PyCharm Community Edition

and running the Python programs you will make in this course.

Go to https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download/ and download the Community edition for your

When the download has completed, locate the file on your computer to and run it to install PyCharm.

Once you have installed Python and PyCharm, the last step is to configure PyCharm to recognize where
                 the Python program is.

                      • On the Welcome Screen, choose Configure > Settings / Preferences

                      • On the left panel, select Project Interpreter

                      • Choose the version that says 3.x.x (such as 3.5.1)

                      • Click OK (You’re done!)

                      • If you did not anything that said 3.x.x in the Project Interpreter box, continue to the last step
