   INTRODUCING
   MASTERING ARABIC
   JANE WIGHTWICK & MAHMOUD GAAFAR
           INTRODUCING MASTERING ARABIC
For beginners with little or no experience of language, the Mastering Arabic series
provides an accessible, carefully-paced and lively introduction to equip readers with the
knowledge, skills and confidence to understand, write, speak and read Arabic. Suitable
for study at home or in the classroom, there is a gradual progression between Mastering
Arabic 1 and 2. These are supported by activity books and specialist titles on vocabulary
and pronunciation and the Arabic script.
                         THE BOOKS
“This book is a must for any learner of Arabic
as a lot of thought and consideration went into
its production. It is more detailed and full of
illustrations that can help improve the learner's
understanding […] I would recommend it
                              without any due hesitation.”

                  A WORD FROM THE AUTHORS
Mahmoud Gaafar is an Arabic speaker, a crafter of words and a
great cartoonist! Jane Wightwick is a UK graduate of Arabic who
consolidated her knowledge by spending many years in the
                           Middle East.
Jane realised through her personal and teaching experience
that there was a lack of good, communicative, carefully-paced
material for the early stages of learning Arabic. This led to the
original edition of Mastering Arabic in 1990.
Following the success of the original edition, and by
popular demand, Jane and Mahmoud developed the series
continuously, and still do so today. Mahmoud provides the
natural, original, lively Arabic and Jane provides the teaching and
                           editorial input.
Mastering Arabic now offers a myriad of additional tools. Suitable for
both teachers and learners, the programme and companion website will
provide the framework needed to succeed.
Learners using Mastering Arabic will be able to go from knowing nothing about Arabic to reading and
writing short pieces about current themes. They will also be able to understand what they hear and
        express their thoughts.
Teachers using Mastering Arabic will share the fun of Arabic as classes become enjoyable sessions.
Teachers can be confident in the fulfilment of their students and the strides they will make.
Jane and Mahmoud are enormously proud of the Mastering Arabic programme and hope that each word
of each line continues to be useful for everyone purchasing the series.
