Accessing Elsevier ScienceDirect electronic journals: 
                                                                A step by step guide 
                                                                                     
                1. Open your web browser (preferably Google Chrome). 
                 
                2. Enter the address http://www.evidence.nhs.uk This will take you to the home page of the NICE Evidence 
                Search website.  
                 
                                                                                                                               
                 
                3. Select Journals and Databases from the top right hand side, then from the next screen click on Sign in 
                to OpenAthens to see extra content purchased in your region under the A-Z list of available journals

                4. You will be prompted to login with OpenAthens at this stage. Once logged in make sure that your 
                username displays in top right-hand corner of the screen. This will enable you to view online content from 
                journals subscribed to by the library as well as those purchased by NHS England. 
                  
                 
                                                                                                                                 
                 
                5. Enter the Elsevier (ScienceDirect) journal title that you wish to search into the search box and click search, 
                or browse a list of journals using the A-Z search.   
                 
                Please note that the library has a subscription to the following titles only: Arthroscopy: the journal of 
                arthroscopy and related surgery;  Foot and Ankle Clinics; Journal of Arthroplasty; Journal of Hand Surgery 
                (Am); Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery; Orthopaedics and Trauma; Orthopedic Clinics of North

                6. Results are displayed as in the screenshot below. If the journal is available electronically, the text below 
                the title will read ‘Available from (publisher’s name)’ followed by a blue hyperlink ‘ScienceDirect Journals’.  If 
                you click on this blue hyperlink, you should be taken directly to the journal on the ScienceDirect website. If 
                the journal is available in the library in print, the text will say ‘Available in print at Francis Costello Library’.

                7. Once you have been redirected to the journal on the Science Direct website, you will need to click on the 
                Sign in link in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select the link for OpenAthens from the box that 
                appears. The Sign in link will disappear and a link that says My Account will appear in its place. If you click 
                on the My Account link, it should say the name of the hospital. This means that you have correctly logged in 
                and you can now download full-text articles.
